High jinks

Firefighters accomplished an unusual task when they returned a man to earth after he’d shinned up a 32-foot high lamppost in Birmingham, then spent an hour sitting on top of it. West Midlands Fire Service used a 45-foot ladder, held in place with metal posts, and a hydraulic platform to do the job. Handsworth Fire Station tweeted later that the crews had “got there just in time” and the incident “could have ended very differently”. Ambulance staff treated the man for a hand injury at the scene and then took him to hospital for further assessment.
